God's Solution to America's Moral Decline
Symptoms:
An article from a bulletin out of Magnolia Bible College
quoted the Memphis, Tennessee Commercial Appeal as saying that "one of
every two children born is illegitimate." The writer was speaking of Memphis
births, but a comparable statistic could likely be found in most every
metropolitan community in America. Add to this the rampant increase in
dope addiction, murder, burglaries, crime of all kinds, and the resulting
picture is one of a country that I'm not happy to talk about. I wasn't
born in that kind of a nation, but it just got that way.
Cause:
It got that way because someone decided that morality cannot
be legislated, that pornography cannot be defined, that alternate lifestyles
cannot be condemned. It got that way because America allowed her music,
her arts, to deteriorate. When musicians twist their bodies in a manner
suggesting immoral behavior, smash their instruments into pieces, and leave
an atmosphere of total abandon, nihilistic, anything-goes behavior, then
total decadence and the subsequent destruction of the nation cannot be
far behind. America got that way because her people would not stand up
and demand higher standards of the entertainment world, higher moral judgments
of her courts, higher ethical values of her legislators.
Solution:
Is there any answer to this increasing blight on our nation?
This writer is convinced that only one solution will work, and that is
for Christian people to show the way[1],
to set the standards, to give the world an example[2]of
such benevolent behavior that it will cry out for such to be the norm.
When the inspired penman said, "Blessed is the nation whose God is Jehovah,"[3]
he was telling us that righteousness works, that "sin is a reproach to
any people,"[4] and that the only way to
have a godly nation is to have godly people. Until we can resolve to set
the example, our nation will continue her downward spiral to destruction.
America, the hour is late! The sun has almost gone down!
Notes:
[1]Peter indicates how the reverent example
of a Chrisitian wife can win over the unbelieving husband. "Wives, likewise,
be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word,
they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives, when they
observe your chaste conduct accompanied by fear." (I
Peter 3:1-2 NKJV)
[2]Jesus prayed for the unity of his
disciples that the world might gain faith, "I do not pray for these alone,
but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they
all may be one as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also
may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me." (John
17:20-21 NKJV)
[3]"Blessed is the nation whose God
is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance."
(Psalm
33:12 KJV)
[4]"Righteousness exalteth a nation:
but sin is a reproach to any people." (Proverbs
14:34 KJV)
